What is included?
Everything you’ll need to assemble this router table is included. You’ll get a Bench Dog ProTop Contractor portable router table, an aluminum miter accessory track, enclosed birth plywood cabinet, a pre-drilled router insert plate, and a 22-inch ProFence with 2-1/2-inch dust port.
The first thing you’ll notice about this product is its big work surface. Don’t get fooled by the “compact” part; it has a pretty large work surface regardless of its portability and mobility.
First of all, the integrated dust port is among the crucial features of this product. It means that you won’t have to construct one by yourself and lose time and money. Instead, you’ll get a fully-assembled dust port which fits conventional vacuum hoses and keeps your work area clean and visible.
The aluminum miter accessory track is adjustable, and it can fit all standard miter gauges. Also, the T-slots on both fence and table are suitable for mounting fence rises, feather boards, stops, and switches. These slots help when it comes to crafting precise joints as well as cutting slots and more. If you’re planning to work on large wooden panels, this product also offers two fence slots. By having dual fence slots, you can flip and move the fence with ease.
There are two exclusive steel rails underneath the plate which offer a sturdy support and add up to the strength of the whole construction.
The enclosed plywood cabinet is great for reducing noise and dust. The solid panel construction is much more durable than any other plastic or steel stamped stands. Cleaning the inner part is very easy. All you have to do is empty the cabinet occasionally, and that’s it!
One of the good things about the Bench Dog 40-001 is that it comes with a manual, all the necessary parts, T-slots, cabinets, and required hardware. In simpler words, you’ll have everything you’ll need to assemble this product right out of the box.
Things we didn’t like
Even though this is an amazing router table, it comes with a few downsides. Although they aren’t critical or crucial, they are still worth mentioning. You’ll get a full insight into the overall quality of this product by comparing the downsides with the pros.
One of the first problems people notice is the height of this unit. There are some mechanisms which require a higher top plate and thus can’t be mounted. This problem mainly happens with Bosch routers. Before making a decision, make sure you check the list of supported routers to avoid this problem.
The other potential issue lies in the top plate. While it’s made of non-marring laminate, it can bend and twist, especially in humid areas. Although this isn’t a common occurrence, it can happen if you are not careful.
The last con is the customer support. Bench Dog is notorious for bad customer support. Although the people from the customer support department are willing to help you, as soon as they realize that the problem is severe, they simply ignore it. However, it’s not a common occurrence whatsoever. Don’t let this fact discourage you from purchasing this product. It only happened a few times, but it’s still worth mentioning so that you can get a full picture of potential disadvantages.
It’s designed to withstand various unfit conditions, and it’s made of durable materials. Although some clients criticize the customer support, when the unit works, it works great! It’s mainly thanks to the features such as the forward offset location and the professional dual ProFence. The rubber feet are exceptional when it comes to the reduction of vibration and noise. The bottom line is – If you get a faultless unit, it’s one of the greatest on the market. It has a 4.1-stars rating on Amazon which is more than enough proof of good quality.
